Dust Collection Solutions: Mechanical Notching & Stacking

Mechanical notching is a process in battery manufacturing where the metal foil of electrode, also "tab", is shaped, by mechanical means, such as cutting or stamping.

A large amount of leftovers is produced during the forming and cutting of the tabs.

To deal with it, Villo has developed a specialized Scrap Compressor Machine for the perfect collection and compression of scrap generated during this process.

After notching, the electrode sheets are conveyed to the stacking machine.

There is relatively little dust generated when the pole pieces are conveyed to the stacking machine, the primary role of the dust collector is to provide suction force, preventing the sheets from moving during transportation.

Through a repeated Z-folding process, the positive and negative electrode sheets are stacked together with the separator to assemble a bare cell.

Dust may also be generated during the stacking process, necessitating the implementation of dust removal either at the suction inlet of the stacking machine or by using a side suction hood at the stacking location.
